Piercing Aftercare

Piercing Healing Times 

• Initially : some bleeding, localised swelling, tenderness, for up to a 3 weeks, whiles the tissue thickens - bruising can happen

• During healing: itching, secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid that will form some crust on the Jewellery. The tissue may tighten around the Jewellery as it heals.

• A piercing may seem healed before the healing process is actually complete. This is because this type of wound will heal from the outside to the inside. Although it may feel fine on the outside, the interior could still be fragile. Be patient, and keep the piercing clean. 

• Kids : Please bare in mind kids have small ears and hold moisture - they can be prone to moisture bumps please dry behind the ears thoroughly after baths and showers keep wet hair away.. make sure the saline is getting in there. 

• Kids : If later down the line you choose to change to your own earnings to butterfly backs please be aware of embedding and sore red rings - butterfly's that are too close to the skin can cause little ears to flare up. Too many changes of earnings to can upset the ears - please always choose hypoallergenic and avoid nickel.
  

• TIP: Piercings, even newly healed ones, can shrink or close in days, even after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, keep Jewellery in - do not leave it empty each night -  If it falls out act fast sooner rather than later. 

Downsizing Important Step

After 6 - 12 weeks you should book a downsize appointment to shorten your bar in the studio for cartilage piercings & lobes also can be downsized. This is to reduce movement and the chance of catching, knocks and the piercing changing angles! At 6 weeks the piercing will not be healed so important this is done safely by your piercer.

Healing

Lobes  - 12-18 weeks +

Cartilage -  6months - Year
Nose & Navel - 6months - Year  
                   

If something is wrong ….

Communication with your piercer is important please check you still have room left in your bar to accommodate for excessive swelling. We can safely upsize the bar and give advice on reducing swelling fast.
